First unveiled at Expo 67 in Montreal, Canada, the Alfa Romeo Montreal was originally a concept car. Its overwhelmingly positive reception convinced Alfa Romeo to put it into production. Designed by Marcello Gandini at Bertone, the Montreal featured signature design cues such as retractable headlamp grilles and a NACA-ducted hood, paired with proportions that remain striking to this day.
Power comes from a 2.6-liter DOHC V8 derived from Alfa’s Tipo 33 Stradale race car. Equipped with SPICA mechanical fuel injection and a dry-sump lubrication system, the engine produces approximately 200 horsepower. Mated to a 5-speed ZF manual transmission, the Montreal was capable of sprinting from 0–100 km/h in just over 7 seconds—performance that rivaled many contemporaries.
This Montreal remains highly original, finished in its rare Nero over Nero specification. The interior presents cleanly, with authentic period-correct finishes, while the body retains its factory design language. In 2022, the car received an engine-out service to address leaks and ensure overall health. A fresh oil service was completed in 2024, keeping the car mechanically sound.
Some minor cosmetic aging, including isolated rust spots, is present but does not detract from its originality. For collectors, it represents a choice preservation candidate or the foundation for a careful restoration.
With its race-derived V8, Bertone styling, and limited production, the Montreal has achieved cult status in the vintage sports car world.
